Insurance at Big Sky Eye Care: What We Accept & Savings Plan

AdobeStock 1251855880 Insurance BlogNavigating vision insurance can feel overwhelming, but at Big Sky Eye Care, we make it simple. Whether you have insurance, a high-deductible plan, or no coverage at all, we offer clear solutions to help you access the eye care you need.

This guide will walk you through the insurance plans we accept and introduce you to our Big Sky Savings Plan, an in-house option that ensures affordable eye care for everyone.

Insurance We Accept: What You Need to Know

At Big Sky Eye Care, we accept a variety of insurance plans, but coverage can vary depending on whether your visit is for medical or vision-related services.

Here’s how it works:

  • UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage – We are in-network for medical eye care services, meaning we can bill UnitedHealthcare directly for medical visits related to conditions like dry eye, cataracts, or glaucoma.

However, we are out-of-network for vision services, such as routine eye exams and glasses. While no providers in the area accept this plan’s vision benefits, we’ll help you explore alternatives to get the care you need.

  • VSP & Other Vision Plans – We do accept most EyeMed Plans along with other vision insurance plans.  We do not accept VSP.  If you have a specific provider, our team can verify coverage details for you before your visit.
  • Out-of-Network Reimbursement – If we are not in-network for your vision insurance, you may still be able to submit your receipt for partial reimbursement. Many patients using Spectera can receive out-of-network benefits this way.

Not sure what your insurance covers? Give us a call before your appointment, and we’ll be happy to walk you through your options.

The Big Sky Savings Plan: A Smart Alternative to Vision Insurance

For patients without vision insurance—or those with high-deductible plans—the Big Sky Savings Plan provides an affordable alternative. With a one-time fee of $14.99, you’ll receive 40% off your comprehensive eye exam, significantly lowering your out-of-pocket costs.

Here’s how the savings break down:

  • A full comprehensive eye exam typically costs $279.
  • With the Big Sky Savings Plan, your total exam cost is reduced to approximately $181 (including the $14.99 enrollment fee).
  • The plan also applies to bundled services if you decide to purchase glasses after your exam.

Unlike insurance, this plan doesn’t involve deductibles, co-pays, or complex coverage limits—it’s a straightforward way to save on essential eye care.

How & When to Enroll in the Big Sky Savings Plan

Enrolling in the Big Sky Savings Plan is quick and hassle-free. In fact, we recommend signing up at the end of your visit rather than beforehand. Here’s why:

  • If your doctor determines that you need new glasses, you can apply the savings plan discount to both your exam and eyewear in one go.
  • Since the plan lasts for one full year from the date of purchase, waiting until your visit ensures you maximize its benefits for any future purchases.
  • There's no need to prepay or commit ahead of time—you can decide at checkout whether the plan makes sense for your needs.

Whether you're uninsured, out-of-network, or just looking for a way to save on high-quality eye care, this plan is an excellent alternative to traditional vision insurance.
